Achievers University Secures FMC Owo as Official Teaching Hospital in Landmark Federal Health Ministry Partnership
In a groundbreaking move that marks a major leap forward for medical education in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has signed a landmark tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Achievers University, Owo, and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo. The agreement officially designates FMC Owo as the Teaching Hospital for Achievers University, providing state-of-the-art clinical training for students in medicine and allied health sciences.
The formal signing ceremony, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, was led by the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, on behalf of the Federal Government. He was joined by top officials including Dr. Jimoh Salaudeen, mni, Director of Hospital Services, and Dr. Liasu Adeagbo Ahmed, Chief Medical Director of FMC Owo.
Representing Achievers University were the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Professor Bode Ayorinde, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Omolola Irinoye, and Mrs. Adejoke Ayorinde.
“This is a cherished milestone for our university,” declared Professor Ayorinde, sharing the news with the university community. “To the glory of God, the MoU between Achievers University and the Federal Ministry of Health has just been signed. Officially, FMC has become the Teaching Hospital for our Medical and Allied Health Sciences students. Congratulations to all of us.”
The agreement follows a comprehensive inspection of Achievers University’s facilities on January 21, 2025, by officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The endorsement affirms the university’s readiness to train the next generation of health professionals with access to advanced facilities and real-world clinical experience.
With this partnership, Achievers University’s students in the following disciplines will now receive clinical training at FMC Owo:
Medicine and Surgery
Nursing Science
Pharmacy
Physiotherapy
Medical Laboratory Science
Public Health
Human Anatomy
Human Physiology
This collaboration not only raises the academic and practical standards for health-related programmes at Achievers University but also contributes significantly to healthcare delivery in Ondo State and across Nigeria.
