The remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, have officially departed London, United Kingdom, on Tuesday morning and are en route to Daura, Katsina State, where the late leader will be laid to rest in a state burial.
Owo Today has gathered from reliable sources that the body was conveyed aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in the early hours, following the completion of all necessary diplomatic clearances and procedural documentation.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London, where he is heading a high-powered Federal Government delegation tasked with coordinating repatriation logistics and finalising arrangements for the late president’s interment.
Government officials have confirmed that Daura, the late president’s hometown, is fully mobilised to receive the remains, with security significantly heightened and funeral preparations underway. The state burial is expected to draw national and international dignitaries.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is also expected to deliver a televised tribute to honour the memory of his predecessor. Meanwhile, national flags are flying at half-mast across all federal and state institutions in line with official mourning protocol.
Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, passed away in London after an undisclosed illness. His legacy continues to shape national discourse on leadership, security, and economic development.
